We often get asked at BMC why we still ask patients, doctors and staff to wear masks even though the COVID pandemic is over. The short answer is – it’s not only about COVID!
How many times have you heard a friend say?…”There is a nasty [cold/flu/stomach bug/gastro/infection] going around…so many people have it!”
One thing we learned from the pandemic is how quickly an illness of any description can take hold and have an extreme impact on a small community.
If our doctors get sick, our waitlist extends and our patients wait longer for care.
If the person sitting next to you in the waitroom gives you or your child an illness, that impacts your family, your income, your leave entitlements, and your health.
If the local business owners have sick staff their bottom line suffers and in turn so does the community.
Most importantly, there are almost always people in fragile health in our waitroom and they deserve our protection to the best of our ability.
The bottom line is – it’s a small inconvenience with immeasurable benefits to the community. It’s also just respectful.
If you have to leave home while symptomatic, please help us to help our community by wearing a mask and washing your hands.
If you forget your mask, they can be purchased at reception for a gold coin donation. All money collected is given to local charities.
