You might have recently seen news in the media about free Boostrix (Whooping Cough / Tetanus / Diphtheria) vaccinations.
We know there is some confusion about who qualifies, so we want to clear it up for our Bungendore community!
While the vaccine is highly recommended for everyone, it is only fully funded (free) for specific groups under the National Immunisation Program and NSW Health guidelines.
Who CAN get the Boostrix vaccine for free?
*Pregnant Women: Free during every pregnancy (ideally between 20–32 weeks) to protect your newborn.
*Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander People: Free under NSW Health’s expanded eligibility program to support First Nations health.
*Teens & Kids: Covered under the standard childhood schedule and Year 7 school programs.
*Under 20s Catch-up: Free for anyone under 20 who missed their school doses.
*Refugees: Free for refugees and humanitarian entrants of any age.
Who needs to pay for the vaccine?
If you do not fall into the categories above, the vaccine is not funded by the government. This means you will need to pay for the vaccine if you are:
*A grandparent or family member wanting “cocoon protection” around a new baby.
*A healthcare, disability, or childcare worker.
*An adult looking for your routine 10-year tetanus and whooping cough booster.
*Travelling to a high-risk area.
